Zambia
Zimbabwe
First decision when going to Victoria falls is low water season or high-water season. The low water gives the opportunity for more activities such as rafting, devils pool relaxing, walking to Livingstone Island. However, the high season shows the waterfalls real power when all the rain seasons massive rain water is falling down Victoria falls and creating the big cloud and the rain for the nearby rain forest. Both periods are amazing but I choose the high water.
It is easy to travel in this region, I landed in the Zambian side and checked in at Livingstone backpackers for the first night.
The city of Livingstone is small but definately a town of my taste with some few restaurants and very easy going with places to see nearby. The town has a national museum where it can be nice to cool off from the hot African sun. Otherwise it is a great place to start your journey in this part of Africa.

An helicopter tour over the falls cost about 150 US dollar. It seems like a lot of money at the moment but it is totally worth it. The view is magnificent and a memory of a life time. There are a few companies that do the tours and they fly the same route. Just make sure you get a window seat otherwise it could be hard to get a great view. Make sure to say this to the organizers. The helicopter departs from the Zimbabwe side.

When in Zimbabwe I took the helicopter flight over the falls, and this overview in high water season is worth every penny. We stayed in Victoria falls city which is walking distance to the falls. The city is very modern and offer really good food and well-made coffee. Try the pulled pork at the beer house and why not something from the menu at Shearwater explorer village where I was staying.
Around the falls there is a lot of activities as well. I went to the canyon look out café and from there I did the Gorge Swing, almost like a bungee jump and just amazingly fun. It is a little bit pricy but if you combine different activities you will lower the price remarkable. By the way, when crossing the border, do not take a taxi…the walk is very nice as well over the bridge that makes the border for both countries.
On the Zimbabwe side there is a nice walk in the rainforest where you can see the width of the falls and the power during high tide falls.
Victoria falls is one of the most fantastic places I have ever been. The falls is actually moving during time and makes this Z looking gorges, however it takes thousands of years for the water to create the Gorge, so the falls will stay put for a while.
In the surroundings there is some short trekking routes as well.
Zambian side is a great side during low water. Then you can take a walk over the falls to Livingstone Island where David Livingstone lived time to time. Here you can also see the beautiful water streaming along the river to eventually reach the fall.
On the other walk there is a possibility to walk down to the surface after the falls. It´s called "Boiling Point". A very nice spot to just relax and watch the water.

The falls should be seen from both sides so buy a KAZA visa and travel from Zambia to Zimbabwe and enjoy the amazing fall from both sides.
